Fake security cameras are everywhere. You can get them at your local Home Depot or Menards for about 15 dollars. Having this ready availability is great. But, how do you get the best use out of these cameras that do, basically nothing? First, let’s look at the functionality of real surveillance cameras and then we will get back to the answer to that question. Security cameras, in general, provide one or two services. The first is to observe and possibly record events as they are happening. The second is to advertise the fact that the area or property being observed has some sort of security protection, even if it is only the observation camera itself. The purpose of that advertising is to convince potential criminals to change their minds about committing a crime on or against the property in question. This is where the dummy security cameras come into play. They do accomplish this second purpose of security cameras as well as the real cameras. So what are the smartest ways to use the fake security cameras in your home?

QSEE Fake Security Camera

When using fake security cameras, the number one rule is to remember that it should only be used as an addition to an existing system. Prices have really come down on camera surveillance systems in the last couple of years and the quality is better than ever, not to mention the fact that the systems now integrate easily with home networks. So, start with at least two real cameras and then you can add a decoy camera to the mix. Next, make sure that the camera fits in well with the rest of the cameras in your system. By that, I mean make sure that the fake looks like other cameras in the system. If all of your other cameras have LED lights, then make sure that your fake has them too. You do not want to give criminals any reason to suspect that a dummy camera is on the property and giving all of the cameras in the mix a uniform look is one way to accomplish that. Make sure that the camera is in a logical and observable position. A camera that sticks out like a sore thumb might be a clue that it is a fake. On the other hand, don’t hide the camera as if it were meant to record spy camera videos. The camera’s purpose is advertising and you do want intruders to know that it is there. Lastly, tell as few people as possible that you are installing fake security cameras. Information has a way of getting around and you certainly do not want the fact that you are using fakes to get around. Following these smart tips will go a long way to maximizing the protection afforded by fake security cameras.

Dummy Security Cameras

A growing trend in crime deterrence is the use of dummy security cameras. Crime is a serious concern for many, but complete surveillance systems are complicated and expensive. Fake security cameras are a viable option for most people and small businesses, regardless of their security needs and financial means.

Dummy CCTV cameras are more common than many people realize. They have been shown to be a successful method for deterring criminal activity including vandalism and theft. A real surveillance system can be prohibitively expensive for a small business or private landowner. However, most fake security cameras cost between thirty and fifty dollars and are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing once mounted on the wall or ceiling.

There are a wide variety of models for every need. Dummy security cameras can be found in both indoor and outdoor styles. One popular and inexpensive model is the dome ceiling camera. This type of camera is usually seen in retail stores or other public locations, and is a great choice for a shopkeeper who needs a little extra security.

Another popular style is the outdoor model. These dummy surveillance cameras are often seen in parking lots or recreation areas as protection against car theft and vandalism. They have a thicker casing that in a real camera would protect the delicate interior from the elements. Of course, in the dummy security cameras this is all part of the illusion. These models are ideal for frightening off would be vandals around the home.

A slightly unusual variety of fake security cameras is the fake wildlife camera. A wildlife camera is typically mounted on a tree and is motion triggered so that it takes an infrared picture when something passes by. They are designed to help hunters track game patterns. The false version usually has a small LED light to attract the attention of people, and is used to deter poachers and trespassers on private land.

Most dummy CCTV cameras can be found with LED lights to increase their believability. These lights are powered by a battery and last a long time. They are designed to simulate a power button, making the fake security cameras even more indistinguishable from the real thing.

Since the goal of most protection and surveillance methods is to stop crime before it starts, often the illusion of a security system is more important than actually having one. After all, not many people want to be caught on film while committing a crime. The use of dummy security cameras can help create this illusion, and add an affordable extra layer of security to any property.

Have there ever been times that you wished for a camera surveillance system in your house? Have you ever heard the doorbell ring and wonder who was there, or worse, answer the door to find no-one at the door. Moms often times wish that they didn’t have to drop what they are doing and go check on the kids in the back yard. Small business owners, struggling to get by, sometimes don’t have a clue as to whether merchandise is walking out the back door or not. In all of these cases, a camera surveillance system can provide a solution. Many people think that these systems are just too expensive to consider. Until the last few years, that was true. However, in today’s day and age, camera surveillance systems come with many different options and are affordable for any budget.

Technology has been racing forward at a breakneck speed. We are all benefitting from the advances by seeing the price of camera surveillance system. There are two varieties. The first is PC based as it has a tower and the functions of the system are carried out by (usually) a Windows based program. The good thing about the PC based systems is that they can integrate well with wireless cameras to form home based wireless surveillance camera systems that have all of the power of their wired cousins at a fraction of the cost.

The second and more popular version is based on an embedded DVR. There is no software to install, as all of the systems functions are embedded in microchips. Up until recently, basic two camera DVR systems cost over $1,000. Today, you can get a system that includes the two cameras, a DVR , 120 minutes of looped recording, live viewing from anywhere via the internet, PDA, VGA, and USB outputs for under $400. Many of these features were not available five years ago, for any price.

A PC based surveillance video camera system is more expensive than the DVR type for two reasons. First, they come with more hardware than the DVR types, the PC tower and a minimum of four input cameras (sources). Second, because they are PC based, the software comes with more flexibility and can be updated easily. These systems usually com with image control software that gives you more options on the output side. All of this functionality comes with a price. These systems start at over $1,000. While this might seem expensive, it is an order of magnitude cheaper than ten years ago.

For people willing to take the time to research and install camera surveillance systems, it can be done for a minimum amount of money. The systems are well worth the amount of money spent for the security and peace of mind that they provide.

People Install a camera surveillance system for many different reasons. However, whether it is to prevent shrinkage for a small business or to watch the kids in the back yard for a family, it all boils down to one thing. Peace of mind. So, when you’re ready to install a video camera surveillance system in your business or home, you can be rest assured that you are about to feel a whole lot safer. People install these security camera surveillance systems for so many different reasons. No matter what your reason, the one thing everyone can agree about is how good you feel when your property is protected and the peace of mind it provides.

Surveillance camera installation can be used to monitor the activities of your business. A well placed system prevents employee theft. Studies have found that the average dollar loss per employee theft is sometimes more than 5 times the amount of the average shoplifting incident. Whether your business is commercial, manufacturing or retail, the design and implementation of a camera surveillance system should be an integral part of your loss prevention and anti-theft program. If burglary is an issue, there are motion activated, infrared, security cameras that will take pictures automatically whenever someone moves in front of them and then digitally storing the pictures within the micro-camera. This allows you to retrieve them later just by plugging the camera into your TV/VCR. A more expensive option is a video camera surveillance system with the same attributes. Even if you do not have theft or burglary issues at your business, many times you can significantly reduce your business insurance premium when you install a security camera surveillance system. All you have to do is call your insurance agent. They will do the leg work for you and check your policy to see if you can save money. Many times, the savings can pay for the system within a year.

Homeowners are one of the biggest benefactors of camera surveillance system’s. You can monitor the activities of your home while you’re away, so you will be sure of the safety of your children and your pets while you are away. You can even arrange for a motion detector to alert you via pager or e-mail when there is a disturbance at your home or business or to activate recording. You can set up a camera surveillance system for your backyard if you have a pool there, or just to keep an eye on the kids. Setting up a camera at the front door can save lots of needless trips to answer the door for pesty solicitors.

Security camera surveillance system are not expensive anymore. They can notify you of suspicious activity where ever you are in the world. Security camera surveillance systems are easy to install. In fact, it takes less than a few minutes to determine the system that’s right for you, and have it installed in your home or business. They can be installed by yourself or by a professional. If either case, it is most likely that the peace of mind that they provide more than outweighs the costs involved.
